This study is on the sports instructor system in elementary school. The aim of this study is to explore plans to vitalize the sports instructor system that can be practically realized in school based on the researcherʼs field experience, the related literature research, media reports and voices from the field. Based on the media reports on the sports instructor system in elementary school, the researcherʼs field experience and the literature investigation, this study aims to find out what kind of efforts are needed to vitalize and enhance the quality of physical education in elementary school, and provide alternatives to problems of implementing the related policy in a critical manner. Multifaceted efforts are required to make sports instructor system take roots in physical education class in elementary school. Specifically, the selection process of sports instructors should be organized by Metropolitan and Provincial Offices of Education. Furthermore, the efforts to strengthen an occupational identity by establishing a fair selection system and reinforcing a minimum qualification to become sports instructors are necessary. To strengthen the occupational identity, the instructors should be assigned a clear role and a responsibility. Also, a broad range of policy measures are required to help them to establish a cooperative relationship with school or other teacher. Instead of focusing on theory itself, field-oriented training should be provided to instructors. In addition, systematic training on practice and programs to build upright personality and develop their educational knowledge should be provided.

본 연구는 초등학교 스포츠 강사제의 활성화와 관련한 현장경험과 문헌조사, 언론보도, 현장의 목소리를 기반으 로 실질적인 스포츠강사제의 활성화 방안을 모색하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 초등학교 스포츠강사 관련 언론보도 자 료, 연구보고서, 연구자의 스포츠 강사 경험, 문헌조사 등을 기반으로 자료수집을 하였다. 그 결과 초등학교 스포츠 강사 제 활성화 방안으로는 첫째, 스포츠 강사의 정체성을 확립할 수 있도록 초등학교 스포츠강사들의 수업운영에 있어서 명 확한 역할과 임무부여를 하여야 한다. 둘째, 학교 또는 담임교사와 원활한 협력관계 구축을 위해 실질적인 제도적 보완 이 요구된다. 셋째, 스포츠 강사의 연수교육에 있어서도 이론중심 보다는 현장중심으로 이루어지고 체계적인 실기교육 과 인성 및 교육적 소양을 함양할 수 있는 내실 있는 프로그램의 제공을 위한 노력이 요구된다.
