The purpose of this study was to generate basic information for the prevention of injuries in bowling competitions by analyzing characteristics of various bowling injuries and studying directions of rehabilitation. The bowling injuries occur in diverse aspects, such as unbalanced strides in approaching steps, inadequate swing speed, and inaccurate releasing point and timing. The major regions of bowling injury include wrist, forearm, elbow, spine, and femur. However, it is believed that the bowling injuries can be prevented and rehabilitated by increasing the ranges of working joints, maintaining body temperature in the competitions, and enhancing muscular strength. For these effects, stretching, massage, sling exercise, and resistant exercise training are strongly recommended, as suggested in the present study. Collectively, the current study demonstrates the importance of the prevention of bowling injuries for the improvement of athletes’ performance. Moreover, this study is suggested as the preliminary data for the accumulation of safe and effective training methods for the bowling coaches and players to mitigate their bowling injuries. Lastly, standardizing severity of injuries and finding individualized training methods are suggested as key topics for the follow-up studies.
