In order to gather background knowledge good enough to help any relevant fields to approach these housing-related issues in Korea even more profoundly, this study aims to improve understanding on collective housing types in different countries of these times which had worked as a foundation of housing in Korea. As ways to achieve the research goals, the study first focused on Le Corbusier, one of the most proactive architectures who had made the greatest contribution to formation of contemporary housing in the West, and looked into his collective housing plan and investigation processes. The study then extracted these key types which are observed in his more than 40-year-process of research that had not been yet discussed in detail and investigated constructive features of each type. Findings of the analysis on a total of nine housing types revealed that main units are mutually connected to main blocks. The study was also led to better understanding not only on constructions and building methods but also on development processes of constant interest and thinking in regard to constructions of main blocks as space and city organizations. After all, this study is considered to be a significant reference to help our understanding on constructions of the contemporary Western collective housing which had deeply influenced the housing culture of Korea.

본 연구는 한국 집합주거의 문제에 보다 심도 있게 접근하기 위해 필요한 배경적 지식을 제공하고자, 그 근간을 이룬 당대의 외래 집합주거형식에 대한 이해의 폭을 넓히는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위한 하나의 단초로서, 서구 근대주거 형성에 있어서 가장 주도적으로 활동한 건축가 중 한명인 르 꼬르뷔제의 집합주거계획과 그 탐구과정에 주목 했다. 아직까지 구체적으로 다루어지지 않은 40여년의 연구과정에 나타난 주요 타입들을 추출, 각각의 구성적 특징을 고찰하였다. 총 9가지의 주거타입을 분석한 결과, 주호와 주동 구성의 상호 연계성을 확인하였고, 구조와 건설방식, 공간과 도시조직으로서 주동 구성에 대한 지속적인 관심과 사고의 발전과정을 이해할 수 있었다. 궁극적으로, 우리 주거문화에 깊게 영향을 미친 서구 근대 집합주거 구성에 대한 이해를 돕는 일차적 참고자료로서 의의가 있다.
