A learning style is a student's consistent way of responding to and using stimuli in the context of learning. Simply, learning styles are different approaches or ways of learning. Understanding students' learning style helps teachers understand students better and assisted them in reenforcing skills they needs to succeed in school. This study examined traditional models of learning style such as Dunn & Dunn model. Gregorc's thinking style, Kolb's experiential learning style, McCarthy's 4Mat. and Briggs-Myers' MBTI model. These models are oriented toward learner's information processing function and personality traits rather than ways of learning. This study explored the multiple intelligences(MI) learning style as an alternative model for effective instruction. The MI learning style is focused on learner's way of learning in class. There are many ways of learning, but the best way is to use one's strongest intellectual ability. The efficiency of educational productivity can be raised by utilizing learner's multiple intelligences.

학습양식은 학습자들이 개인적으로 선호하는 학습 방법이라 할 수 있다． 최근의 교수 · 학습 과정은 수업의 효과를 높이기 위해서 학습자들의 학습양식에 맞추어 개별화되는 경향이다． 기존에 많이 알려진 대표적인 학습양식 이론으로는 Rita Dunn과 Ken Dunn의 학습양식 (청각적(auditory learners）· 시각적(visual learners) · 촉각적(tactile learners）· 운동감각적(kinesthetic learners)), Anthony Gregorc의 사고양식(thinking style) 모형(구체적 무작위적 사고，구체적 연속적 사고，추상적 무작위적 사고，추상적 연속적 사고), David A. Kolb의 경험적 학습양식 모형(수렴적 학습자(convergers), 확산적 학습자(divergers), 순응적 학습자(assimilators), 조정적 학습자(accommodators)), Bernice McCarthy의 4Mat 학습양식 모형(혁신적 학습자，분석적 학습자，상식적 학습자，역동적 학습자), Katharine Briggs와 Isabel Myers의 학습양식 모형(MBTI）등이 있다． 본 연구에서는 다중지능이론에 기초하여 학습양식을 탐구하였다．학습자들의 가장 발달한 지능을 활용한 학습이 가장 효과적이라고 한다면，바로 이 지능이 그 학습자의 학습양식이 될 수 있다． 학생들의 학습양식에 맞추어 학습 활동과 학습 과제를 제시했을 때 보다 효율 적인 수업이 될 수 있다．
