In this paper, we introduce AES, an international standard block cipher algorithm, and LEA, a new block cipher algorithm developed lately in Korea. LEA is evaluated as cryptographically secure algorithm. LEA has equal security strength to AES, and its performance is relatively lighter than AES. After comparing performance of AES and LEA, we assert that LEA is more efficient than AES in today’s real world. In our experiment, T-table AES, currently the most optimized AES, and our improved LEA are used. As a result, we conclude that performance of LEA is better than AES.
