In this study, a legend and symbol development plan was proposed after classifying them into three types, i.e., applied, transformed and newly made, using the materials of Europe. It is believed that the legends and symbols proposed in this study will be considerably effective in generally identifying the morphological features of topography and the features of geographic distribution on large-scale geomorphological maps. At the same time, it is expected that the results of this study will be utilized as fundamental materials in developing legends for the preparation of ecomaps related to the national natural environment survey conducted by the Ministry of Environment. However, the topography symbols proposed in this study only stress the morphological features of topography, and they have limitations in that it is difficult to comprehensively judge the causes of topography formation of each unit, the development process and the time of formation. Thus, it is thought that they should be supplemented through follow-up studies.

본 연구에서는 유럽의 범례 기호 사례 중 국내 실정에 가장 적당하다고 생각되는 자료를 바탕으로, 적용, 변형, 신규제작 등 3가지 유형으로 나누어 지형학도 범례 기호 개발 방안을 제안하였다. 본 연구에서 제안된 범례 및 기호는 대축척 지형도 상에서 지형의 형태적 특징과 지리적 분포 특징을 개괄적으로 파악하는데 상당히 효과적일 것으로 생각된다. 아울러 본 연구 결과는 환경부 전국자연환경조사 생태지도 작성을 위한 범례 개발에 기초적인 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. 단, 본 연구에서 제안된 지형기호는 지형의 형태적 특징을 강조한 것으로, 각 단위 지형의 성인, 발달과정, 형성 시기 등을 종합적으로 판단해 내기는 어렵다는 한계를 가지고 있다. 이에 대해서는 후속 연구를 통해 보완되어야 할 것으로 생각된다.
