The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of reduced training(taper) volume during seven days before competition on performance(record of swim 200m, running 800×4set) and fatigue index(POMS) in fourteen modern pentathlonists. Subjects participated in the experiment were consisted in taper group(n=7, TG) and control(n=7, CG). The taper program of TG groups was reducing the training volume to 50% from base training volume during seven days before competition and was reducing training valume to additional 25% from reducing 50%. CG groups was reducing the training volume to 50% from base training volume during two days before competition. The results were as follows; As for the change rate of the swimming record(200m), running(800m×4set) among groups, TG group appeared improved more than CG group at post on pre. As for the change rate of POMS index among groups, TG group reduced more than CG at post on pre. In conclusion, taper before competition on modern pentathlonists appeared to have improved in performance and fatigue index.
