The purpose of this study was to explore the fostering of an advanced South Korean defense industry after the abrogation of the designed system of the 1stand 2nd defense companies. The South Korean defense industry is facing a new challenge in developing its future business after the abrogation of the aforementioned system. This inquiry suggests a future policy direction for South Korea’s advanced defense industry, illustrating the present problems and controversial issues relating to such. In the creative-economy era, the defense industry could be a new growth engine of South Korea based on the defense industry’s creative economy..

본 연구의 목적은 전문화․계열화 폐지이후 나타난 방위산업의 지정현황, 중복투자 및 과열경쟁, 대기업과 중소기업의 양극화 현상 등 방위산업의 현황을 살펴보고 전문화․계열화 폐지이후 발생하게 된 방산업체의 불이익 사례를 중심으로 방위산업의 문제점을 분석하고, 이를 바탕으로 선진국형 방위산업 육성을 위한 제도적 개선 방안과 거버넌스 구축을 통한 범부처적 지원체계 정립, 한국형 방산 히든챔피언 육성 방안 등의 대안을 제시하는 것이다.
