The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of elderly people's factors forenvironment on their social activity disability. Social activity disability was investigated in terms ofthree subareas based on Branch & Jette(1981)'s Social Disability Questionnaire: housekeeping,transportation and social interaction. As for factors for environment, three kinds of needs wereselected from WHO(2001)'s ICF about influential environmental factors for health status: productsand technology, support and relationship and Services. The findings of the study were as follows:First, the factors for social environment that had the largest impact on social activity disability wasfactors for products and technology In terms of control variables, social activity disability wasseverer among the elderly people who were male, who had no spouses, who owned no houses,who had no experience to be hospitalized, and who found themselves to be in worse health. Second, as a result of analyzing the influence of the needs on social activity disability in eachsubarea, factors for products and technology exercised a significant influence on social activitydisability in the areas of and factors for products and technology and support and relationship wereinfluential in the area of social interaction. Given the findings of the study, how to prevent elderlypeople from having social activity disability or relieve it by providing intervention in terms ofsocial environments was suggested.

본 연구의 목적은 노인의 환경요인이 사회적 활동장애에 미치고 있는 영향을 살펴보는 것이다. 본 연구에서는 사회적 활동장애를 Branch와 Jette(1981)가 사용한 ‘Social Disability Questionnaire’에서 발췌한 3가지하위영역, 가사관리, 이동, 사회적 상호작용을 사용하였다. 환경요인은 WHO(2001)의 ICF(InternationalClassification of Functioning)에서 건강상태에 영향을 미치는 환경적 요인에 대한 분류 중 3가지 요인을 선정, 적용하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 사회적 활동장애에 영향을 미치는 환경요인으로는 제품및 기술요인이 가장 큰 영향을 미치고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 통제변인으로는 남성, 배우자가 없는 경우,무주택자인 경우, 입원경험이 없는 경우, 주관적 건강상태가 나쁠수록 사회적 활동장애의 수준이 높았다. 둘째, 하위 영역별로 본 사회적 활동장애에 대한 영향력을 살펴 본 결과, 가사관리 활동과 이동 영역에서는 제품 및 기술 요인이, 사회적 상호작용 영역에서는 제품 및 기술요인, 그리고 지원 및 관계요인이 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이를 토대로 향후 환경 개입을 통한 노인의 사회적 활동장애의 예방및 감소할 수 있는 방안을 제안하였다.
