The purpose of this study is to find main factors of socio-economic characteristics affecting regional population changes using t-test, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. For the empirical analysis, this study uses 230 cities, districts, and boroughs divided into two spatial categories, such as seoul capital region and non-capital region to investigate significant characteristics affecting the population of two regions respectively. The findings are threefold. First of all, it turns out that there are statistically significant differences in socio-economic characteristics between the two regions. Second, the correlation between population changes and industrial features is very significant, indicating that population policy associated with various economic opportunities is necessary. Third, it also shows that characteristics affecting regional population changes are significantly different between the two regions. This is mainly from the different level of social and cultural accessibilities(chances). In case of the non-capital region, the accessibilities are not so much affluent as the capital region. Therefore, it should be focused on coming in contact with the environments in the non-capital region, resulting that the more social and cultural environments can be accessed, the higher population growth is expected.

본 연구는 지역의 사회경제적 특성이 인구변화에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 분석하고, 분석결과를 바탕으로 정책적 시사점을 제시하는 것이 목적이다. 이를 위하여 전국 230개 시군구를 수도권과 비수도권으로 구분하였으며, 실증분석으로 t-검정, 상관분석, 그리고 다중회귀분석을 이용하였다. 분석결과, 첫째, 수도권과 비수도권의 사회경제적 특성은 통계적으로 유의미한 차이를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 인구변화와 산업 간 밀접한 상관관계를 보이고 있어 인구정책과 산업정책을 연계한 정책이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 수도권과 비수도권 간에 인구변화에 영향을 미치는 요인은 차이가 있으며, 수도권에 비해 비수도권의 인구변화에 다양한 사회경제적 특성이 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 비수도권 지역은 사회문화 여건을 반영한 인구정책이 인구유입에 있어 중요한 역할을 할 수 있다는 점을 시사한다.
