If the target year is 2030 as proposed in the Fourth Airport Development Master Plan, the area of the passenger terminal should be expanded almost twice and the runway slots should be expanded. However, extra runways to increase slots have complex problems such as environment, relocation of residents, and a huge budget of a few trillion won due to the condition of the Jeju Airport lot. Currently, the Jeju branch of Korea Airports Corporation announced and carried out short-term action plans to solve problems such as insufficient runways and passenger terminal areas due to the increase in aviation demand. Even when expansion of runways and passenger facilities is partially completed, the airport is expected to reach saturation again in 2015. Thus, it is necessary to have medium and long-term plans for expansion of the Jeju International Airport infrastructure. With regard to medium and long-term plans of Jeju International Airport, it is urgent to make and carry out not short-term action plans but fundamental and strategic plans such as expanding the infrastructure of the existing airport facilities and the new airport plan in order to cope with increasing aviation demand flexibly. This study aims to provide basic data in the architectural plan area for the airport infrastructure expansion plan in the future based on the findings on the saturation time and additional terminal area of Jeju International Airport.

제주공항은 4차 공항계획에서 제시한 2030년을 목표연도로 가정할 경우 여객이용시설의 소요면적이 현재보다 2배 가까운 확충과 활주로의 슬롯 확충이 필요하다. 하지만 슬롯 증대 방안인 활주로 추가건설은 제주공항 부지여건상 환경, 민원, 거주자 이전 및 수조원의 예산 등 복합적인 문제점을 안고 있는 실정이다. 현재 한국공항공사 제주지역본부는 항공수요 증가로 인한 발생하는 활주로 용량 부족과 여객터미널 소요공간 부족 해소를 위한 단기적인 대처방안을 발표?시행하고 있다. 이와 같은 활주로와 여객터미널 시설의 소극적인 부분 확충이 완료되어도 완공 후 곧 바로 2015년에 다시 포화용량에 도달할 것으로 예상된다. 이에 보다 중장기적인 제주국제공항 인프라 확충계획이 필요한 것으로 분석되었다. 이에 제주국제공항의 중장기계획은 증가하는 항공수요에 탄력적으로 대처하기 위해 현행과 같은 단기적인 대처방안이 아닌 기존 공항시설의 대폭적인 인프라 확충 또는 신공항 계획과 같은 근본적이고 전략적인 계획수립과 시행이 절실한 것으로 사료된다. 본 논문은 이와 같은 제주국제공항의 포화시점과 터미널 추가 규모에 대한 분석 결과를 바탕으로 향후 공항인프라 확충계획 시 건축계획분야의 기초자료를 제공하는데 목적이 있다.
