This research introduced ‘one-body understanding’ as a method of new understanding of counseling. One-body understanding is a way of understanding where counselor and client function as a members of one body. One-body understanding has its root on the concept of one-body encountering which is based on presence. Therefore this research explained one-body encountering and tried to identify one-body understanding in relation to it. In many cases one-body understanding just happens without special efforts or activities. In this aspect, it’s very close to ‘muwijayon’, which is the central idea of Taoism. So I tried to concretize the methods of one-body understanding using muwijayon. As a result, ‘no knowledge’ ‘no thinking’ ‘no desire’ ‘no wording’ ‘no work’ ‘self-making’ ‘self-revealing’ have been identified. To clarify the characteristics of one-body understanding, empathic understanding was compared to it on 8 criteria. The meaning which one-body understanding gives to counseling, the value of one-body understanding as a way of oriental way of understanding, the relation of one-body understanding with other modes of understanding were discussed as well.

이 연구는 상담의 이해 방식으로서 동체적 이해를 탐색한다. 동체적 이해는 상담자와 청담자가 마치 한 몸에 속한 지체들처럼 조그만 틈도 없이 서로를 이해하는 방식을 말한다. 동체적 이해는 현전재성에 근거를 둔 동체적 만남이라는 개념에 뿌리를 두고 있다. 따라서 이 연구는 동체적 만남을 소개하고 그 연장선상에서 동체적 이해의 정체를 드러내려고 하였다. 동체적 이해는 다분히 특정 노력이나 활동과 무관하게 우발적으로 이루어지는 경우가 많다. 따라서 동체적 이해는 도가에서 말하는 무위자연과 상통하는 측면이 있다고 판단하고 무위자연을 활용하여 동체적 이해의 방법을 구체화해보았다. 그 결과 무위자연의 내용 중에 특히 무지, 무사려, 무욕, 무사, 무언, 자생과 자화, 자명 등이 동체적 이해의 방법들로 채용 가능하였다. 아울러 동체적 이해의 특성을 보다 명료하게 드러내기 위해 공감적 이해와 동체적 이해의 차이점을 여덟 가지 측면에서 분석하였다. 마지막으로 동체적 이해가 갖는 상담적 의미, 동양의 이해방식으로서 동체적 이해의 가치, 동체적 이해와 여타 이해 방식의 관계 등을 논의하였다.
