In this study, we studied the amplification of art and gymnastics activities in the curriculum of the 1st and 2nd grade of elementary school. We studied the possibilities, the needs, and the pros and cons of teachers and parents about the amplification of art and gymnastics activities. We examined the opinions of teachers and parents about this matter. In the consenting party about this matter, teachers and parents expect that students will be happy in school and their humanities, and socialities and cooperative spirit will be improved when art and gymnastics activities increase in the curriculum. On the other hand many teachers opposed the amplification of art and gymnastics activities in the 1st and 2nd grade. The reason that teachers objected art and gymnastics activities' amplification is that it will increase their tasks. They said that if the learning time increases for the conduct of art and gymnastics activities, it will be a burden to them. Parents, however, usually gave approval to the plan of increasing leaning time in the 1st and 2nd grade of elementary school. The main problems when we operate the curriculum which art and gymnastics activities are amplified are that there are not much space and programs for art and gymnastics activities. This means that we have to try to make enough classrooms, gyms and good programs. The results of this study suggest that we need to consider the amplification of art and gymnastics activities when we revise the elementary school's curriculum.

본 연구에서는 초등학교 1, 2학년에서 예술 및 체육 활동을 확대하는 것과 관련하여 필요성, 확대방안, 확대할 경우 예상되는 문제점을 외국의 예술·체육 활동 사례와 학부모 및 교사 의견 을 중심으로 고찰하였다. 교사와 학부모들은 예술·체육 활동의 확대될 경우 학교생활이 즐거워 지고, 학생의 인성과 사회성 및 협동심이 함양될 것으로 보았다. 초등학교 1, 2학년의 수업시수 를 증대할 경우 확대될 필요가 있는 교육과정은 교과보다 음악, 미술, 체육 등의 활동으로 나 타났다. 교사와 학부모간 약간의 차이가 있지만 양자 모두 국어, 수학, 바른생활, 슬기로운 생 활보다 음악, 미술, 체육, 놀이, 기타의 예술·체육 활동이 더 확대될 필요가 있는 것으로 인식 하였다. 이것은 향후 교육과정 개정에서 예술·체육 활동이 강화되어야 함을 시사하는 것이다. 그러나 수업시수를 증대하는 방법으로 예술·체육 활동을 확대하는 것에 대하여 학부모들은 찬 성하였으나 교사들은 반대하는 것으로 나타났다. 교사들은 예술·체육 활동 확대의 필요성에 원 론적으로 찬성하지만, 현실적으로 업무 부담을 우려하여 반대하는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 수 업시수 증대는 장기적 차원에서 고려하되 현실적으로는 방과후 활동의 일환으로 예술·체육 활 동을 확대하는 방안이 더 적절할 것으로 보인다. 예술·체육 활동을 확대 운영할 때 예상되는 가장 큰 문제점은 시설이나 공간이 미비하거나 프로그램이 빈약하다는 것이다. 특별교실이나 체육관, 운동장 등이 구비되지 않은 경우, 예술· 체육 활동을 할 적절한 장소를 확보하기 어려운 형편이다. 따라서 학교의 현실적 여건을 반영 하여 예술·체육 활동이 이루어지기 위해서는 알맞은 시설과 공간 및 관련 프로그램이 제안되 어야 할 것이다.
