The purpose of this study is to obtain better understanding about instructional adaptation of vocational high school science teachers. By interviewing five science teachers who have had the experiences to teach students in vocational high school and observing classes of one teacher of them, we intended to find difficulties and how to overcome them in their instruction process. We divided instruction process to curriculum and teaching contents, instruction methods, evaluation as key points of analysis and then collected data and analyzed them qualitatively. As the results, we found that vocational high school science teachers wanted to help student enrich their scientific attitude and scientific literacy rather than delivering scientific knowledge to them. So, they re-designed science curriculum and make efforts to conduct more experiment classes to cause interest of students. Also, they tended to use videos, flashes, and diagrams as a teaching strategy to attract students' attention in their class. They tried to provide easier and closed-answer questions depending on the level of students in paper-based tests and appeared to evaluate students on the basis of attitude or diligence in performance evaluation. As the conclusion, we discussed what the features of instructional adaptation in vocational high school meant and suggested the methods which could help the effective instructional adaptation of science teachers.

본 연구의 목적은 과학 교사들이 전문계 고등학교에서 교수(敎授)하는 과정에서 느끼는 어려움은 무엇이며, 이를 어떻게 대처하며 적응하는 지를 살펴봄으로써 과학교사가 전문계 고등학교에서의 교수에 대해 이해하고 적응하는 데 도움이 되는 자료를 제공하는 것이다. 이를 위해 전문계 고등학교에 근무 경험이 있거나 현재 근무 중인 현직 과학 교사 5인의 심층 면담과 면담참여자 중 1인의 수업 관찰을 실시하여 자료를 수집하였다. 수집된 면담자료와 수업 녹화 자료는 교육과정과 교수내용, 수업방법, 평가 영역으로 세분화하여 해석적인 방법으로 질적 분석하여 결론을 도출하였다. 분석 결과 전문계고 과학 교사들은 일반계 고등학교에서 추구한 지식의 전달보다는 과학적 태도나 과학적 기본 소양을 기르는 수업을 추구하고, 전문계고 학생들의 수준에 맞추어 교수내용을 재구성하고자 하였으며, 학생들의 흥미유발을 위해 실험 수업을 자주 하려고 노력하였고, 동영상 및 플래시 자료, 강화 등을 이용해 집중도를 높일 수 있는 전략을 고안하여 과학 수업을 이끌어 나가고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 지필평가 시 학생들의 수준에 맞추어 난이도는 낮게, 단답형으로 출제하고, 수행평가 시에는 태도나 성실성에 의거하여 점수를 부여하는 경향을 보임을 알 수 있었다. 결과를 토대로 전문계고 교사들의 교수 적응의 특징이 갖는 의미와 효과적인 교수적응을 위한 방안에 대하여 제시하였다.
