This research investigates the overall transitional process of World Taekwondo Hanmadang which is historical and representative. By exploring the events and rules of this competition, this paper aims to provide the basic information on Korea Taekwondo Hanmadang. With the in-depth analysis on it, I try to draw a roadmap for its development. The results are as follow. Firstly, World Taekwondo Hanmadang(WTH) was organized by Korea Taekwondo Association(KTA) in 1992. Since previous events were designed for elite sportsmen and criticized on its format, KTA aimed to resolve them to get popular. The events briefly contain individual and group games. The Poomsae competitions in group events were firstly introduced as this type of competition in the history of Korea Taekwondo. It is meaningful since it brought out several other events for Poomsae. The creative Poomsae was also newly introduced in WTH. And Taekwondo Aerobic contributed to its spreading in general life. In summary, WTH under KTA did a great work for the development of Korea Taekwondo. The event improves the impression of Taekwondo to publics and revives the spirit of it. It changes Taekwondo as elite sport to general life sports. And the newly introduced games such as Poomsae varies the area of Taekwondo. Secondly, in 1999, KTA gave their authority on WTH to Kukkiwon. The background of this was the dramatic development on WTH and it caused the international scale of this competition. There were changes in the format of WTH made by Kukkiwon. World Taekwondo Muye Championships which is started from 2003 has been conducted as a group game. To avoid the complication, Taekwondo Hanmadang and World Taekwondo Muye Championships have been merged as ‘World Taekwondo Hanmadang’ since 2004. After 2005, the diversification of locations entertains people by introducing domestic culture into it. It becomes a festival. World Taekwondo Hanmadang in 2008 was held in Anaheim, California shows the advancement of this festival as an international event. In summary, WTH under Kukkiwon stabilizes itself as a festival by several attempts including changing name, new games, introducing new rules, broadcasting systems and domestic cultures. It still requires more advancement by the rising levels of competitors and needs of audiences. To achieve this, they should listen and admit various suggestions. It will help Korea Taekwondo Hanmadang to become the genuine Taekwondo competition as an international martial festival.
