Effects of Taekwondo Poomsae exercise program on Blood Lipid, Adiponectin, and Leptin in Middle-Aged Obese Women
This study conducted the 12-week taekwondo poomsae training with 24 middle-aged obese women to compare and analyze its effect on changes in blood lipid, adiponectin, and leptin. Finally, the following findings were obtained. First, as for the weight change, there was a significant difference between groups(p<.001) and in measurement times(p<.001) and group×measurement times(p<.001). As for the % BF change, there was a significant difference in measurement times(p<.001) and group×measurement times(p<.05). Taekwondo poomsae training had a positive effect of reducing weight and %BF in middle-aged obese women. Second, as for the blood lipid change, total cholesterol(TC) was significantly different in measurement times(p<.01); neutral fat was significantly different in measurement times(p<.001) and group× measurement times(p<.001); HDL-C was significantly different in measurement times(p<.001) and group×measurement times(p<.01); and LDL-cholesterol was significantly different in measurement times(p<.001) and group×measurement times(p<.001). Taekwondo poomsae training had a positive effect of reducing blood lipid in middle-aged obese women. Third, as for the adiponectin change, there was a significant difference in measurement times(p<.001) and group×measurement times(p<.001) and as for the leptin change, there was a significant difference in measurement times(p<.001) and group×measurement times(p<.01). Taekwondo poomsae training had a positive effect of increasing adiponectin and reducing leptin in middle-aged obese women. Based on the results, taekwondo poomsae training was effective to reduce weight and % BF, which can prevent middle-aged obese women's metabolic syndrome. It also reduced blood lipid effectively, suggesting that it is an effective exercise program to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. The increase in adiponectin which is secreted in the mast cell by weight loss after taekwondo poomsae training indicates the possibility of inhibiting inflammation in obese patients. In particular, taekwondo poomsae training can be done without overworked knee joints and recommended for middle-aged obese women.
