Before it was decided that the office of provincial government of GyeongSangBuk-Do would move into Andong Yecheon, Andong city experienced a decrease in population and a low rate of economic growth. To find out which regional, social and economic indicators affect the population and economic growth in Andong city, we utilize a panel regression analysis. From the panel regression analysis, we find out that the industry development indicators have influence on population and economic growth not in the short term but in the long term. Moreover, the location quotient indices show that agricultural industry, mining industry, food and beverage industry have regional competitiveness, etc. Furthermore, from a shift-share analysis, agricultural, mining, food and beverage industries have increased in regional competitiveness. Accordingly, to develop the economy of Andong city, we need industrial development strategy in long-term perspective.

본 연구는 안동의 지역경쟁력을 분석하고, 발전방향을 제시하고자 한다. 먼저, 안동의 경제성장과 인구증가에 영향을 미치는 요인을 파악하기 위한 패널회귀분석 결과, 산업발전지표는 단기적으로는 안동의 경제와 인구에 영향을 미치지 못하지만, 장기적으로는 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 또한 입지계수를 활용한 지역산업의 경쟁력을 분석한 결과, 안동의 지역경쟁력 우위산업들 중에서 농업, 광업, 음식료업 등의 지역경쟁력이 상승추세에 있다. 즉 안동의 경제발전을 위해서는 장기적인 산업정책이 필요하며, 특히 농업 및 농업관련 제조업 그리고 서비스업에서의 발전전략이 절실한 실정이다. 한편 경북도청의 안동이전과 같은 환경변화에 대비하여, 지역적 특성을 반영한 장기적인 산업발전전략이 요구되고 있다.
