The Effect of Sensation Seeking, Peer Conformity, Deviant Behaviors, Friend, and Adult Swearing on Early Adolescent's Swearing

The major purpose of this study was to explore the effects of sensation seeking, peer conformity, deviant behaviors, and friend's and adult's swearing on early adolescent's swearing by grade. The subjects were a total of 453 students attending 6th grade student of elementary school and 2nd grade students of middle school. For data analysis, frequency, Cronbach α, t- test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, multiple regression were used. The main results were as follows: first, antisocial peer-conformity, deviant behaviors, friend's and adult's swearing, and adolescent's swearing of 2nd grade students of middle school were higher than 6th grade students of elementary school. Second, both 6th grade students of elementary school and 2nd grade students of middle school, antisocial peer conformity, deviant behaviors, peer, and adult swearing were positively correlated with adolescent's swearing, while neutral peer conformity was positively correlated with adolescent's swearing only in 2nd grade students of middle school. Third, the variables which affected on adolescent swearing were different. In 6th grade students of elementary school, friend's swearing, antisocial peer-conformity, and teachers' sweating effect on adolescent's swearing. In 2nd grade students of middle school, friend's swearing, antisocial peer-conformity, parent's swearing and neutral peer-conformity effect on adolescent's swearing. I discussed that adolescents' swearing was effected by developmental phenomenon of early adolescence as sensation seeking and peer conformity and also was significantly effected by swearing of other people.
