This study was to reveal the characteristics of foreign dementia units floor plans. Space syntax theory, use of floor plan, literature study were used as methods. The study revealed that number 1, 17, 39 spaces in an A dementia unit showed the highest connectivity, and number 36, 41, 5 spaces in a B dementia unit indicated the highest connectivity. RRA(Real Relative Asymmetry) is used as an easy access or centrality index. Number 1, 17, 39 spaces in an A dementia unit pointed the highest RRA, and numbers 41, 5, 40 spaces in a B dementia unit showed the highest RRA. The conclusion is that there were multi-centered spaces used in the sample dementia units, and they played multi-roles such as walk-through, dining, social contact, rest ets. It is also shown that there were social contact spaces shown variously in the sample units floors. For instance, number 1, 17, 39, 2, 5, 38, 48 spaces in an A dementia unit appeared highly social contact spaces, and number 41, 5, 40, 42 space in a B dementia unit unveiled highly social contact spaces.

본 연구는 외국 치매요양시설의 평면적 특성을 공간구문론을 이용 분석하고자 한다. 연구의 방법으로 공간구문론, 평면분석, 문헌고찰을 이용하였다. 연구결과 A치매요양소에서는 1, 17, 39, 2, 5, 38, 48번 공간 순으로 RRA값이 낮게 나타났다. B치매요양시설에서는 41, 5, 40, 42번 공간 순으로 RRA값이 낮게 나타났다. 결론으로는 특정 공간을 다용도 기능이 가능하도록 한 것이다. 제한된 공간 내에서 다양한 행위가 일어나도록 다용도 공간을 제공해 준다면 공간이용적 측면 뿐만아니라 치매노인 간호를 위한 시야 확보와 관리에 도움이 되므로 공간의 다용도성에 대한 적극적인 고려가 필요하다. 또한 다양한 곳에서 사회성(Social contact)을 높일 수 있는 공간들이 A와 B치매요양시설에서 나타났다. 예를 들면 A치매요양시설에서 1, 17, 39, 2, 5, 38, 48 공간, B치매요양시설에서 41, 5, 40, 42 공간으로, 이들 공간은 이웃 공간과의 연계성을 높여 다양한 용도로 활용할 수 있는 고려가 계획단계에서 반영되어야 한다고 판단된다.
