The purpose of this study is to grasp growth process of Chinese wushu as a sports event and its trend and prospect, and to find plans of developing wushu in Korea. The results are as follows: First, Chinese martial arts, which are various in kinds, developed wushu as one kind of themselves which emphasizes the cultivation of spirits and bodies. Also Chinese martial arts have been standardized in their management, which enabled harmonious development of the martial arts’ sports sides and private sides. As a result, therefore, Chinese martial arts are spreading their area into Asia and the world. Second, the traditional martial arts can fulfill the instinct desire which modern people pursue, but promotion and mutual cooperation for the development of wushu are required to cover the weak points of it as a sport game. Third, marketing strategies are needed for the expansion of Chinese martial arts, and efforts of national leaders and each member of the nation are required. Forth, the status of Chinese wushu in international sports events will be gradually increased and with this perspective, it can be predicted that the traditional wushu and the sport-wushu will take the important place. To prepare for such future, Korea should take a strategic study on wushu as a daily-life exercise and take efforts in discovering competent men and nurturing them.

이 연구는 중국 우슈의 경기화 과정과 중국 우슈의 동향 및 전망을 살펴 보고, 한국 우슈의 발전 방안을 모색하는 데 목적이 있다. 이와 관련하여 다 음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 첫째, 중국무술은 종류가 다양한 형태에서 우슈 (wushu)라는 경기종목을 개발함으로써 내외겸수를 중시하는 중국전통 체육 종목으로 성장하였다. 또한 관리 면에서 더욱더 규범화함으로써 스포츠 무술 과 민간 무술의 상호 양면이 조화롭게 발달하여 중국무술이 아시아, 세계로 발전하고 있다. 둘째, 전통무술은 현대인들이 추구하는 건강한 삶을 영위하 고자 하는 본능적 욕망을 동시에 충족시킬 수 있는 부분과 경기우슈의 단점 을 보완하기 위해서는 우슈 발전을 위한 홍보와 상호협력이 요구되는 상황 이다. 셋째, 중국 무술의 저변 확대와 세계적 보급을 위한 마케팅 전략은 물 론 지도자들과 국민 한 사람 한 사람의 관심과 노력이 무엇보다도 필요하다. 넷째, 국제경기에서 중국 우슈의 위상은 지속적으로 상승할 것이고, 그러한 전망과 더불어 전통우슈와 경기우슈가 세계 무술에서 중요한 위치를 차지하 게 될 것이다. 이에 대비하여 우리나라에서는 우슈에 대한 생활체육으로서의 체계적인 연구와 우슈 인재 발굴과 양성에 노력해야 할 것이다.
