Due to wide spread of smart devices, adopting video contents service to the diverse clients’ device requirements is essential process. Accordingly, transcoding which is a lossy process is required and degrading video quality is inevitable. In such circumstances, minimizing perceptible quality loss is a key issue, while minimizing service cost is key issue of the video contents service provider. However, transcoding cost and video service assessment are both difficult to measure before its actual services. We propose performance estimation criteria and video service quality controls scheme, by categorizing video contents. The preliminary results show that it is possible to relieve transcoding cost from the server side, while maintaining video service quality.

스마트폰, 스마트패드와 같은 디바이스의 사용이 급증함에 따라, 이에 대한 비디오 서비스 역시 중요한 이슈가 되었다. 다양한 형태의 모바일 디바이스에 대한 영상 서비스를 위해서는 어느 정도 수준의 정보 손실이 수반되는 트랜스코딩 과정이 필요하다. 현재의 영상 서비스 및 소비 환경에서 사용자가 인식할 수 있는 정보 손실을 최소화 하는 것이 중요하다. 다만 트랜스코딩에 필요한 서버 부하와 트랜스코딩된 비디오의 서비스 수준은 실제 서비스가 이루어지기 전에 예측하는 것이 매우 어렵다. 본 논문은 트랜스코딩이 발생하는 서버에서의 부하량을 예측하고, 비디오의 서비스 퀄리티 수준을 보장할 수 있는 기술을 제안하고 이를 뒷받침하는 실험 결과를 제시한다.
