This study is in order to understand history and social value of the day and to reestablish an artistic propensity through and which is an elder dancer, Mira Lee's a typical dance drama under patriotism. Moreover, it aims at comprehending and considering her artistic and educational activities. I　conducted theoretically a study on a fundamental concept of patriotism and her artistic perspective. By understanding the history of Korean dance drama, I could find out Lee's artistic spirit, activities and educational viewpoints of dance as I studied her art ideology. Moreover, through her famous pieces and , I could reconsider national spirit. For this research, I could be aware of that she spent all her life in order to inspire patriotism and national consciousness and established foundation of cultural art in Chungnam. I became known that , which is educational dance drama and was made at her UNESCO gave middle and high school students educational effects. By this study as above, I am able to understand Mira Lee’s artistic propensities and activities of a patriotic dance drama.

본고는 오늘날 무용학 내에서 조명되지 못했던 한국 원로 무용가 이미라와 그의 작품 을 통해 당대의 역사와 사회적 가치를 이해하고, 그의 예술적 성향을 재정립하는데 그 목적을 두었다. 이미라의 예술정신과 활동사항 그리고 무용교육관을 중심으로 살펴보았 으며 다수의 작품 중 호국보훈의 정신을 담은 무용극 <성웅 이순신>과 <열사 유관순>은 전통춤을 기반으로 한 사실적 표현을 중심으로 줄거리를 전달하였고, 그것을 통해 민족 정신의 의미를 되새길 수 있었다. 특히 그는 유네스코 재직 당시 교육무용극 <무궁화> 과 <아리랑>을 만들어 중․고등학생들에게 실행하면서 무용극의 교육적 효과를 선두적 으로 전달하기도 했다. 삶에 무용을 담고, 그 무용에 바른 정신을 담고자 했던 그의 행적 은 후학들에게 교본이 되며, 한국 무용극과 충청도 예술의 큰 버팀목 임을 알 수 있었다.
