Electricity often plays a major part in all fires as one of fire causes. When it presents at ignition source, it can start a fire by providing the heat source which is one of the fire triangle. It can also cause mechanical malfunction that can lead to a fire through the wire over-load, short-circuit and sparks. Those are the focal points to investigate in order to determine the potential origin of fire. The general usage of electrical wires and their high melting points, they can be found easily and well conserved as otential evidence at the fire scene. We investigated many electrical fire cases which led many victims dead and caused property damages. The objective of this case studies is to provide the principles of investigative method and distinguishing characteristics of lectrical fires and general fires.

화재 현장에서 주요 화재 원인중 하나인 전기는 그 작용이 연소의 3요소 중 발화원에 직접 작용하는 경우와 기기의 이상을 가져오는 전기결함 및 합선의 원인이 되며, 초기 발화지점을 추정할 수 있는 판별 기준이 된다. 이는 전선이 범용으로 사용되고 고온에서 융점을 이루므로 화재 현장에서 잠재적인 증거로 잘 보존되어 용이하게 발견되는데서 기인한다. 본 논문의 사례들은 전기적 요인으로 인해 관계자 들이 사망을 하거나 피해를 입은 화재사건에 대한 감식 및 고찰을 통하여 전기적인 화재 또는 기타 화재에 대한 원리 및 감식법을 제시하고자 하였다.
