The suicide issue has become a hot potato in korean society chronically. And yet, Prior 2004, the act of self-murder was regarded as a personal problem, policy makers had no interest in employing the policy designed to prevent further felo-de-se across the nation. So far, there has been little measure about preventing suicide except for there state-level policies. Measures are as follows : 「A five-year ground plan for preventing against self-murder (2004∼2008)」 formulated by Ministry of Health and Welfare, 「the second comprehensive plan to prevent several suicidal acts (2009∼2013)」, the collaboration of Pan-government office in 2008, and 「A legislative bill designed to promote the prevention of suicide and the spread of life-respect cognition」enforced on March, 2012. Above measures are too manifesto-based, giving indication of not having effect on the downward drop promptly in terms of suicidal death rate.
The aim of this study is to examine the main contents and matters addressed in the above three state-level policies. In addition to this, the policy-platform centric approach is high on the agenda aimed at diminishing the suicidal death toll rate in the country.

한국의 자살은 이미 심각한 사회문제가 된지 오래인데도 2004년 이전에는 자살을 개인적인 문제로만 치부하고 국가적인 자살예방정책이 존재하지 않았다.
지금까지 한국의 국가적인 자살예방정책으로는 2004년에 보건복지부 주도로 수립된 「자살예방 5개년 기본계획(2004∼2008)」, 2008년에 범부처가 참여하여 수립된 「제2차 자살예방 종합대책(2009∼2013)」, 그리고 2012년 3월에 시행된 「자살예방 및 생명존중문화조성을 위한 법률」을 들 수 있다. 그러나 「자살예방 5개년 기본계획」과 「제2차 자살예방 종합대책」은 한국의 자살사망률 감소에 기여하지 못했고, 「자살예방 및 생명존중문화조성을 위한 법률」은 대부분 선언적인 내용이 많아서 이 법안의 시행이 곧바로 자살사망률을 감소시킬 것이라고는 예상되지 않는다.
이 연구는 「자살예방 5개년 기본계획」과 「제2차 자살예방 종합대책」, 「자살예방 및 생명존중문화조성을 위한 법률」의 주요내용과 문제점을 살펴보고 한국의 자살사망률 감소를 위한 정책적 함의를 제공하고자 한다.
