The purpose of this paper is to see the possibility of vitalizing the DunSan region to make it fit to the concurrent demands of the city spaces. The DunSan region has been developed since 1980s and those urban structure reflects political and social issues of 80s' necessities, which seem to be unfit to current decentralized civil society. This paper suggests a couple of vitalization methods that include aligning the urban axis using architectural and street designs, applying architectural and human scale devices redefining those existing megalo urban scale structures and meanings , adding inner courtyard corridor type buildings aligning two dis-connected urban axis and placing multipurpose high-rise towers functioning as the obelisk which finishes the redefined urban axis. In conclusion, admitting the planned city DunSan show the central symbolic urban axis characterized as administrative and authoritative urban scale image, however, it seem to fail to achieve the vital function as the actual open space which has to encompass various civil activities let alone with being symbolic urban landscape. we suggest architectural and street level devices that would help to scale down birds' eye view worth urban symbol open space into human scale and more citizen friendly and accessible urban open spaces.
