The Private Security Guards is progressing rapidly with the economical development of our society. But the increase of the employment of the below - the- level and no license people has many weak points and problems. The inner competence of the Private Security Guards is very important to help the desirable growth of the Public Security. In accordance with this point, the broad study of self-esteem is progressing lately. If Private Security Guards have the high self-esteem, they worked very actively with responsibility. However, in spite of the positive effect of the self-esteem, only the self-esteem of the infants and teenagers has focused. Therefore this study examined the relations between the self-esteem and public relations and competence. So this study surveyed Seoul and Jecheon Private Security Guards from Sep. 24th, 2010 to Dec. 28th. We can show that the self-esteem effects the competence and the public relations. Namely, the higher the competence of the Private Security Guards has, the higher the self-esteem is. Accordingly it is essential that various educational programs and objective evaluations are designed to improve the competence of Private Security Guards. And the more positively the Private Security Guards think the co-worker relations, the higher self-esteem the Private Security Guards has. This shows that Private Security Guards are members of organizations and relates with their co-workers. So this relations influence their self-esteem. However the contingent reward of leader and individualized consideration, intellectual stimulation don't have an influence on the self-esteem.

민간경비산업은 우리사회의 급속한 경제성장과 더불어 눈부신 발전 을 거듭하였지만 이에 반하여 수준이 낮거나 자격이 없는 사람들의 채 용도 더욱 증가하는 등 조직․운영 면에서 취약성과 문제점들이 드러나고 있다. 민간경비산업의 건전한 육성을 통한 공경비의 보완기능을 충분히 수행하게 하기 위해서는 민간경비원의 내적역량 향상이 매우 중요하며 이와 관련하여 최근 폭 넓게 논의되고 있는 개념 중의 하나가 바로 자아 존중감이다. 민간경비원이 높은 자아존중감을 갖고 있어 자신의 가치와 중요성을 인식하고 그 조직 구성원으로서 만족과 자부심을 느낀다면, 그들은 소명의식과 책임감을 가지고 업무에 적극적인 자세로 임하게 될 것이다. 그러나 자아존중감이 개인 및 사회에 미치는 긍정적인 효과에 도 불구하고 선행연구는 유아기나 청소년기를 자아존중감이 형성되는 시기라고 보고 이들을 대상으로 한 연구에 집중되어 있었다. 따라서 이 연구에서는 민간경비원들의 자아존중감에 대한 연구의 필요성을 인식하 여 이를 조직 내의 대인관계 및 업무능력에 초점을 맞추어 이들의 관계 를 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 2010년 9월 24일부터 12월 28일까지 서울 및 제천의 민간경비원을 대상으로 연구를 수행하였다. 연구결과 업무능력(=0.314)과 동료와의 관계(=0.297) 변인은 민간 경비원의 자아존중감에 정적(+)인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 민간경비원의 업무능력 수준이 높을수록 자아존중감이 높다는 것을 의 미한다. 따라서 민간경비원의 업무능력을 향상시킬 수 있는 다양한 교 육프로그램의 개발과 업무능력을 객관적으로 평가할 수 있는 여러 장치 가 개발되어야 할 것이다. 또한 민간경비원이 동료와의 관계가 긍정적 이라고 인식할수록 자아존중감이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이는 민간경비 원들도 조직의 구성원으로서 조직 내에서 타인과 일정한 관계를 맺고 이러한 관계가 그들의 자아존중감에 영향을 미친다는 것을 반영하는 것 이다. 그러나 상사의 조건적 보상, 상사의 배려 및 지적자극은 자아존중 감에 유의미한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다.
