- This study aims at describing what people makes motivated to participate at the European Go Congress(EGC) and at indicating the key factors of participant satisfaction at the EGC. A survey was conducted at the 56th EGC 2012 in Germany. The findings can be summarized as follows. The motives for participating at the EGC were playing Go as a leisure activity, competing, measuring and improving one’s Go strength, learning from professional players, meeting professionals and friendship. The European Go Congress 2012 in Bonn/Germany was a relatively well organized tournament which can be seen in the participants’ high degree of satisfaction regarding most events, services and costs. A few weaknesses should be overcome in the future, such as the lack of inexpensive accommodations, unsatisfactory catering and an insufficient program for youth players.
