The purpose of this study was to analyze a first hurdling motion of world class hurdlers at the World Championships (WC) in Daegu 2011 in order to improve the skills of 110 meter korean hurdlers for the preparation of 2012 London Olympic. Dayron Robles from Cuba who is a current a world record (12.87 seconds) holder, and Liu Xiang from China who had a previous world record, 12.88 seconds were selected for the analysis during the final event of 110 meter hurdle at Daegu WC 2011. This study was aimed to provide the quantitative data sets with a focus on an improvement of technique and training program for korean hurdle coaches and athletes. Based on the analysis of first hurdling of these elite hurdlers, the following four major findings were considered as important performance factors:1) maintaining a lower projectile of the center of mass (COM) 1.33m during the flight event, 2) minimizing the horizontal speed of COM 0.14m/s during the landing event, 3) maintaining a ratio of 60 percents of take off and 40 percents of landing during the first hurdling, and 4) minimizing a flying time 0.35sec during the landing event. Therefore, it would be concluded that maintaining a lower projectile of COM during hurdling and minimizing horizontal speed (time) at a landing event compared to a flight event are important to improve the performance of korean 110 meter hurdlers.
