The objective of this study is to examine the changes and features on former university Taekwondo athletes in adapting to school life using mentoring techniques. In order to achieve the objectives of this study, a total of eight people, four mentors and four mentees, were selected from August 23 to December 23, 2011. Mentors were selected from Taekwondo majors at K University who stated that they wished to participate in the mentoring program and had high grades. Mentees were selected among students who dropped out of Taekwondo programs among elite Taekwondo athletes in university, who conformed to the standards for participation in this research. The tools for examination were school life adaptation questionnaires, open surveys, and in-depth interviews. As the researcher, I made thorough preparations for one year in order to conduct qualitative research, and came up with methods to take into consideration the feasibility of the qualitative research. With the help of mentors for three months, Excel programs were used to check the differences before and after participating in the mentoring program in order to check the differences in adapting to school life by mentees, as well as the exact features of changes. The features of the differences in changes among them were examined through open surveys and in-depth interviews. The data was analyzed using the interviewer triangulation method. Through the above procedures, the following conclusions were made. First, mentees participating in the research showed positive changes in teacher-student relations, companion-relations, classes, school rules, and academic achievement, which are all sub-factors of school life adaptation. Second, all mentees that participated in this research were found to gradually recover confidence for adapting to new environments and changes through mentoring by mentors on school life, which they though would be difficult after quitting sports.
