Since introduction of local self-government, each local government has tried to develop their local economy with autonomy. The results of development differed from local to local due to the characteristics of each local. This study aims to identify factors affecting local economic development focusing on Chungcheong. This study classifies 5 factors influencing on local economic development with GRDP. These five factors include transportation, industrial location, capital, environment and, administrative and financial sectors. After identifying the most influential variables using the bivariate tests, the current study employs multiple regression to test the VAR model. There are significant correlations among the variables. In addition, the analyses reveal the causal relationships among road, factory area, and variables related to labor supply. Impulse Response Function and Variance Decomposition show that transportation, industrial location and capital effect on development of GRDP, and local government expenditure are influential on increase GRDP.

본 연구는 지역경제성장 요인을 교통, 산업입지, 자본, 정주환경, 행ㆍ재정 등 5개 분야로 나누어 살펴보았다. 각 부문별로 후보변수 선정 후, 상관관계와 인과관계분석 등을 참고하여 적합한 변수를 선택하여 VAR모형으로 분석하였다. 분석은 지방의 전국 총계자료가 아닌 광역지자체 단위로 하였으며 충청권의 대전, 충북, 충남에 대해 비교분석하였다. 추정결과를 보면 세 지역 모두에서 공통적으로 교통부문의 도로율이 유의성 및 장기효과 등에서 가장 큰 영향을 미치고 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 두 번째로 충북과 충남은 공장용지면적, 대전은 건축허가면적으로 대변되는 산업입지 요인이 주요요인으로 나타났다. 지역에 따른 차이점으로는 충북과 충남은 유사한 형태를 보이며 다음으로 노동부문이 주요요인으로 분석된 반면, 대전의 경우는 재정지출 부문이 중요 요인으로 분석되었다. 충남의 경우 도로율이 타 지역에 비해 월등히 높게 기여율이 높은 것으로 분석되었다.
