The purpose of this study of the old town will find a way to conservation and utilization for the city. Daejeon became a modern city after gyeongbu railroad was constructed in 1904. The old town has a history of 100 years, and the place has valuable historic architecture, landscape environment, lifestyle and culture. However, many modern architecture and the street space have not developed any more and have disappeared because of political and economic reasons. I collected some materials of old town's history and recorded them. I researched some examples of taking advantage of valuable city space and modern architecture in order to utilize this places to small museums, exhibition hall, art center or public place. I'd like to suggest an alternative idea for conservation and utilization.

이 연구 목적은 1904년 경부선 개통 이후 근대도시로 발전한 대전지역에 원도심의 보존과 활용 방법을 찾는 것이다. 원도심은 백년에 역사를 갖고 있으며, 가치있는 역사적인 건축물, 가로환경, 생활방식과 문화를 가지고 있다. 그러나 그동안 정치, 경제적인 이유로 많은 근대건축물과 거리공간들은 쇠퇴하거나 사라져 갔다. 가치있는 도시공간과 근대건축물을 사용하고 있는 사례를 조사해 보고, 소규모 박물관 또는 전시장 ,아트센터, 공공공간과 같은 용도로 활용하기 위해 원도심이 갖는 많은 역사 자료를 아카이브즈를 활용한 수집, 기록화하여 보존과 활용에 관한 전략적인 대안을 본 연구에서 제시해 보고자 한다.
