- This study explored the use of Family positioning work when counseling adolescents and their parents. Hellinger developed Family positioning, a therapeutic process that helps to restore peace and healing to family members entangled with the fates of those from previous generations. He revolutionized family systems therapy by illuminating the hidden, and often destructive, loyalties within families. The author concludes that Family positioning work can be used to help adolescents and their parents become aware their patterns of thinking and acting.
