The adult is to grow up a Christian, and never know himself as being otherwise. Although Bushnell says the above sentence to emphasize the need of child’s faith nurture, this article wants to use it for an adult’s continuing faith education by narrative. A narrative approach in adult christian education has some characteristics as the following; First, narrative epistemology in adult christian education is based on images through story and discourse in a triadic pattern of personal stories, our stories and Christian stories. In images, the initiative one who leads us to understand is Holy Ghost in God’s praxis. Second, the narrative approach says an adult will have self-identity or self- authenticity through story and discourse. This is called by narrative identity. Adults need to understand about God’s calling and response as a vocation. An adult in Christian education is a God’s partner as a narrative identity. Third, God’s calling and God’s partner as a vocation needs to be discerned by four narrative contents which are constituted by a minimized doctrine, a perspectives on the Bible, a popular religiosity narratives, and an autobiography on and off line. Reading and writing autobiographies in adult Christian education include secular and sacred events in our global culture. Because God’s praxis works through all events and persons in this world. What needs to a christian is discernments to spiritual meanings in God’s praxis. Fourth, the narrative approach emphasizes integrative teaching and learning processes and methods. Until now, most of the leaders in Church has used limited methods in their teaching. There are many kinds of stories and discourses around us for teaching the faith of our vocation and a partner of God. In the process of teaching and learning the world of the text is formed by a meeting between the traditional text of Church and the life of Christians. The world of the text is one which is filled with God’s calling and vocation as a partner of God.

성인기의 신앙에 대한 교육적 관심이 증대되어지고 있다. 성인기는 아동기와 달리 다양한 삶의 자리에 다양한 사람들을 만나면서 살아간다. 그리고 21세기는 다문화의 사회이다. 성인들은 다문화사회에 다차원적인 관점을 지니고 살아가야 하는 시대이다. 그러나 지금까지 한국에서의 성인들의 사고와 삶은 획일성에 기반하고 있다. 형성되어 있는 삶에 대한 인식과 살아가야 할 다문화사회에서의 삶의 양상에는 상당한 차이가 있다. 이를 극복하기 위한 하나의 방안은 성인들로 하여금 ‘담화’에 의한 신앙교육을 가지도록 하는 것이다. 담화에 의한 신앙교육은 상상력을 기초로 한다. 체계를 강조하는 합리성과 대비된다. 인간의 상상력을 많이 언급하지만 신학적인 관점에서 보면 상상력은 하나님에게서 비롯된다. 하나님의 상상력이다. 그리고 하나님의 담화이다. 이 둘은 하나님의 속성 중에서 무엇보다 하나님의 신비를 강조한다(사55:8, 롬11: 33). 이에 대한 인간의 응답은 신앙이다. 인간의 상상력과 담화는 결국 인간의 신앙을 형성하고 재형성하게 한다. 성인의 신앙은 소명을 감당하고자 하는 공적인 유익을 위한 신앙이어야 한다. 그리고 성인은 지속적으로 하나님의 동역자로 살아가도록 격려 받아야 하고 격려해야 한다.
