Mishima Yukio's Literary World and Sports : focusing on The Realistic Argument on Sports Mishima Yukio is known as aestheticist for his major work Kinkakuji until 1960s when there was a drastic change in the world of his work. As his interest in reality had been increased, he had become more and more radical nationalist, and finally he committed hara-kiri with clamoring for the revival of militarism and the Emperor system. This change of his ideology was reflected in the world of his work. Then, what was the motivation of the change? This thesis had been started from this question. I have thought of that motivation associated with his interest in sports in this thesis. This is because the most noteworthy change in that transition period was his concern for sports, looking back on Mishima Yukio's real life. Thus, in and around The Realistic Argument on Sports which is condensed into his interest in sports, I analyzed the detailed process that he tried to remodel the body with body-building and boxing, and then he started kendo so as to reconstruct the mind. As a result, I had found that he had faced the incongruity between body and mind since he had been deep into the world of sports so that his yearning for or blind faith in body, power, or absolute authority had been intensified. In addition, I had figured out how this change had effects on the world of his work or his ideology.

代表作「金閣寺」によって三島由紀夫は耽美主義作家として知られているが、1960年頃から彼の作品世界には大きな変化が起きることになる。現実に対する関心が深まるにつれて彼は段々急進的な民族主義者になっていき、結局軍国主義や天皇制の復活を叫びながら割腹自殺をすることになるが、彼のそういう思想的な変化は作品世界にもそのまま反映されたのである。では、そういう変化のきっかけは果たしてなんだったのか。この研究はそういう疑問から始まったわけである。そのきっかけをこの論文では彼のスポーツに対する関心と関連付けて考えてみた。なぜなら、三島由紀夫の実際の人生を辿ってみると、そういう過渡期におきた最も注目すべき変化が正にスポーツに対する関心だからである。したがって、スポーツに対する彼の関心が凝縮されているエッセイ｢実感的スポーツ論｣を中心にして、ボディ・ビルやボクシングを通して肉体の改造を試みた後、剣道の世界に入門して精神の改造を図っていく過程を詳細に分析してみた。その結果、スポーツの世界に深入りしていくにつれて、次第に精神と肉体の不調和が生じ、肉体や力、あるいは絶対権力に対する憧憬や盲信が育まれていったことを確認した。そして、そういう変化が三島の文学世界や思想に及ぼした影響も確かめることができた。
