There are over 350 supplementary and alternate medical treatments, and among those, some are similar to each other in terms of principles, practices, and applications overlapped in some parts. In such cases, the relationship between color and art therapies can be understood from a totally different perspectives while being impossible to be separated when it comes to conceptual approach. Color therapy focuses on the passive bio-reaction emphasizing the light and color, while art therapy focuses on the art activity using color and shape stressing importance on a patient active participation in art activities in terms of physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual aspects. In order to accomplish well-being, the art therapy takes care of physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual elements on the whole, and there is the very reason that it is being so quickly spread in the society. From the similar reason, it is easily expected that the roles of color and art therapy within the frame of future medicine will be gradually enlarged. It is believed that such integrated color and art therapy will contribute to the development of the overall sphere of medicine in the near future. 350여 가지나 되는 보완대체요법 들 중에는 그 이론과 시술과 응용 면에 있어서 서로 비슷하거나 분야의 일 부가 중복되는 경우도 많이 있다. 그 중의 하나가 색채요법과 미술치료의 관계로 색채요법과 미술치료는 엄격한 의미에서 다르면서도 서로 분리하여 떼어낼 수도 없는 개념이다. 색채요법은 광선과 색깔에 초점을 맞추어 이에 의한 수동적 생체반 응을 강조한다고 한 다면, 미술치료는 색과 형을 이용한 미술활동에 초점을 맞추어 인간의 신체적, 정신적, 정서적, 사회적, 영 적 측면에서 능동 적으로 참여시킴을 강조한다. 참 건강(well-being)을 이루기 위해 미술치료는 신체적, 정신적, 정서적, 사회적, 영적 요소를 두루 다뤄 줄 수 있는 있다는 점에서 그것의 빠른 보급의 이유를 찾을 수 있다. 같은 이유에서 미래 의학의 틀 안에서 색채요법과 미술치 료의 역할이 지속 적으로 커 가리라는 것을 쉽게 전망할 수 있다. 이러한 통합적 색채요법과 미술치료가 의학 전반의 발전에 크게 기여하리라 고 믿는다.
