Middle Aged Women's Variables Affecting The Participation in Dancing Activities and The Differences in Mental Health According to The Level of Participation
This study was designed to find out middle aged women's variables affecting the participation in dancing activities and the differences in mental health according to the level of participation. The measures for the diagnosis of metal health was a simple mental diagnosis test which was originally developed by Derogatis (1977) and revised by Kim Guang-il and Kim Jae-Whan (1984). Using the SAS Program, the data received from a total of 182 adult women who were in their 40-60s was used to find the frequency and rates according to the characteristics of demography and average and standard deviation for T score of mental health of dependent and independent variables. In addition, in order to identify average differences in T score of mental health, single and double variation analysis, t test, and follow-up test by Ducan were conducted and showed significant conclusions as follows. 1. Subjects' dependent variables and mental health In the subjects' final education, the mental health had differences in mental symptom (high school graduates 〉graduate school graduates). However, in the awareness of their health, the women who thought they were mentally healthy were healthier than the women who thought they were not healthy, and the women who regularly taken exercise were healthier than the women who didn't regularly take exercise. 2. Participation in dancing activities and mental health There weren't any difference in the mental health of middle aged women according to the age. Only in the obsession with body fitting, the women who had participated in dancing activities showed higher than the women who had not participated. 3. The level of participation in dancing activities and mental health In the differences in the mental health according to the duration of participation in dancing activities, there were differences only in the antagonism (less than 1 year 〉more than 2 years) and phobia and mentality (both less than 1 year 〉more than 1 year). In the differences in the mental health according to the frequency of participation in dancing activities a week, there were differences only in the sensitivity (1 times /week 〉2 or 3 times/week, 4 or 5 times/week, and everyday). In the differences in the mental health according to the duration of one participation in dancing activities, there were differences in antagonism (less than 1 hour, more than 3 hours 〉1 or 2 hours, 2 or 3 hours) and paranoia (less than 1 hour 〉1 or 2 hours, 2 or 3 hours). The conclusions suggest the improvement in middle aged women's health. Regular physical exercises like participation in dancing activities have positive effect on the improvement in middle aged women's health. However, too much exercise or extreme participation in dancing activities could result in fatigue, anxiety, and depression. So the participants should consider the frequency of participation in dancing activities a week, the duration of one exercise, and exercise intensity in accordance with their physical level.
