The aim of this study is to understand the characteristics of the architectural transformation thinking and shape-transformation based on the architectural design appeared free-form architecture. The below is a summary of the thesis. First, the free-form architecture which has a great vogue around 1990 was holistic idea and organic solidarity with various elements. It also makes a flexible and continuous composition rather than heterogeneous one. Second, the organic solidarity methods, which are derived from the transformation thinking of free-form architecture, are changed various elements, such as topography, boundary, movement, shape, skin, into architectural idea images. The technique of design factors has the form characteristics consisted of the transformational thinking and shape due to flexible solidarity, such as polyhedron, curved figure and liner shape. Third, the transformational thinking breaks from geometric shapes and takes space compositional methods. Thus, the meaning of architectural shape can be interpreted as the general characteristics made up of comprehensive unification rather than individual characteristics. These composition will come to the organic having the transformational thinking.

본 연구는 건축가들의 표현의지를 왜곡된 시각으로 해석하는 경향을 배제하고, 비정형적 형태표현을 통해 무엇을 풀어가고 있는지를 살펴봄으로써 형태에 적용되고 있는 변형적 수법들과 그에 따른 사고의 틀을 고찰하고자 한다. 이는 해체적·파괴적 양상으로 보는 비정형 형태와 변형적 유기성과의 연관관계를 밝힘으로서 의미전달의 수단이라는 건축형태의 본질적 의미를 재해석하고자 함이다.
