As the interests in Korean traditional architecture and the expectation of its industralization grow, a major R&D project sponsored by the government is in progress for the development of related technologies. And, along with the recent trend of digital design approach based on Virtual Building or Building Information Modeling(BIM) technology, the development and application of digital design tools are being upgraded once again. However, the developments of design tools for Korean traditional architecture so far have not included the fence, which is the major element of the exterior space of Korean traditional architecture. Therefore, this study develops a BIM-based design tool for Korean traditional fences as an approach to the integrated management of design information. To this end, first the characteristics of Korean traditional fence is analyzed in terms of the properties of its typical components, the relations among the components and the method of over-all construction. And then, a design tool is developed with the parametric modeling functions of the ArchiCADⓇ system. As the applicability and efficiency of the developed tool are verified with sample designs, it is expected to contribute to the further development of an integrated design system for and eventually to the industrialization of Korean traditional architecture.

최근 한옥에 대한 관심이 커지고 한옥의 산업화에 대한 기대가 고취되고 있는 가운데 정부 지원으로 ‘한옥 기술 개발’을 위한 대형 R&D 과제가 진행 중에 있다. 이와 함께 가상건축(Virtual Building) 혹은 건축정보모델링(Building Information Modeling; BIM) 기술 기반의 설계 방식이 대두되고 있는 추세에 따라, 디지털 설계 도구의 개발 및 활용에 대한 기대도 한 차원 높아지고 있다. 그러나 지금까지 한옥 설계 도구에 관한 연구 개발은 한옥의 외부공간의 주 요소인 담장을 다룬 사례가 없다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 한옥의 담장을 대상으로 설계 정보를 통합 관리할 수 있도록 BIM 기반의 설계 도구를 개발한다. 이를 위해서 먼저, 한옥 담장의 부재별 속성, 축조방식 및 부재간의 연계성을 분석하여 ArchiCADⓇ 시스템의 파라메트릭 모델링 기능을 활용한 설계 도구를 개발하고, 시범 사례의 설계를 통해 그 활용도와 실효성을 검증하였다. 개발된 설계 도구는 향후 한옥 통합 설계 시스템의 개발 및 한옥의 산업화에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
