Alginate degrading bacteria were isolated from pickled hairtail guts from Mokpo, Korea. PolyM-specific lyase from tenotrophomonas maltophilia KS2010 was cloned into pColdI vector and overexpressed in E. coli. Molecular weight of new alginate lyase was deduced as 36.6 kDa and pI was calculated to 6.5. The alginate lyase was overexpressed as a his-tag fusion protein. A novel alginate lyase inhibited the growth of biofilm forming bacteria, Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Strain KS2010 grew well on minimal agar plate or minimal liquid medium containing alginate as a sole carbon source.
