‘Ancient Capital’ means historical center of politics and culture in our nation’s history, and currently four regions, Gyeongju, Buyeo, Gongju and Iksan are designated. Special Law on Preservation of Ancient Capital is created to preserve historical vestiges remaining in the cities and to take care of them. But, the Act, demanded by the residents of the ancient capital areas, is rather dissatisfied with the residents. Although active financial investment by the government for preservation of the ancient city, management and residential support, the law aimed at preservation only, so people are resisting. The government authorities must change the law to reflect the reality by realizing the fundamental issues that ancient cities have. Rather than merely pronouncing the four ancient cities as most historic cities that represent Korea’s 5,000 years old history, the law should be practical
