The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships among Korean teenagers' object relation level, optimism and soothing ability, and to examine the effect of object relation level on optimism with the mediation of soothing ability. The subjects for this study were the total 456 students of the middle and high schools located in Kyonggi province. For the data processing, SPSS WIN 12.0 programs were used in order to examine overall characteristics of data. Pearson's correlation analysis was used to understand the relation among object relation level, optimism and soothing ability, and multiple regression analysis was implemented to understand the influence of object relation level and soothing ability on optimism. And hierarchical regression
analysis was implemented to understand the mediation effect of soothing ability. The major findings and results of the study are as follows: First, there were significant positive correlations between the object relation level and the level of optimism. Second, there were high positive correlations between the object relation level and soothing ability. Third, there were significant positive correlations between soothing ability and the level of optimism. Fourth, soothing ability partially mediated the relationship between object relation level and optimism.

본 연구는 청소년의 대상관계수준과 자기위로능력, 낙관성 간의 관계를 살펴보고 자기위로능력이 대상관계수준과 낙관성을 매개하는지 확인하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 경기지역 소재 남녀 중고생 465명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 자료분석을 위해 상관분석, 다중회귀분석 등을 실시하였다. 대상관계, 자기위로능력, 낙관성 간의 상관관계를 파악하기 위해 상관분석을 실시한 결과 대상관계수준과 자기위로능력은 낙관성과 유의미한 정적 상관을 보였다. 대상관계수준과 낙관성을 매개하는 자기위로능력의 효과를 검증하기 위해 매개효과검증을 한 결과, 자기위로 능력은 대상관계수준과 낙관성 간의 관계를 유의하게 부분 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 즉 대상관계수준은 그 자체로 낙관성에 영향을 주기도 하지만, 자기위로능력을 향상시키고 이것이 다시 낙관성을 높이는 것으로 나타났다. 끝으로 연구결과의 제한점과 후속연구의 제언을 덧붙였다.
