The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of parental sex-role attitude and parent-adolescent communication on adolescent's consciousness of gender equality. The subjects were 408 middle school students from 2 middle schools located in Gyeonggido and their mothers. Data was collected using the adolescent's consciousness of gender equality index, parent's sex-role attitude index, and parent-adolescent communication index, and was statistically analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA(Duncan test), correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. The study showed that there were some significant differences in adolescent's consciousness of gender equality according to the adolescent's gender, grade and
scholastic achievement. Correlation analysis indicated that the adolescent's consciousness of gender equality and parental sex-role attitude had significant positive correlations among all sub-variables. And the adolescent's consciousness of the gender equality and parent-adolescent open communication had significant positive correlations, but parent-adolescent problematic communication had not significant correlations. It was also found that adolescent's gender, scholastic achievement, parental sex-role attitude of job life, and parent-adolescent open communication were all significant predictors of the adolescent's consciousness of gender equality.

본 연구는 부모의 성역할 태도와 부모-자녀 간 의사소통이 청소년의 양성평등의식에 미치는 영향을 살펴보기 위한 연구로, 중학교 1, 2, 3학년 학생 408명과 그들의 어머니 408명을 대상으로 하였다. 본 연구의 결과 청소년의 양성평등의식은 성별, 학년, 학업성적에 따라 유의한 차이가 나타나 여학생이 남학생보다, 1학년과 3학년 학생이, 그리고 학업성적이 높을수록 양성평등의식이 높게 나타났다. 부모의 성역할 태도와 청소년의 양성평등의식의 하위변인 간에는 모두 유의한 정적상관이 나타났으며, 특히 부모의 직업역할에 대한 성역할 태도가 청소년의 양성평등의식과 가장 높은 상관을 나타냈다. 또한 부모-자녀 간 개방형 의사소통과 청소년의 양성평등의식 간에 유의한 정적상관이 나타나, 부모-자녀 간 의사소통이 개방적 의사소통일수록 청소년의 양성평등의식이 높게 나타났다. 청소년의 양성평등의식에 대한 관련 변인들의 영향력을 살펴본 결과, 청소년의 성별과 학업성적, 부모의 성역할 태도에서는 직업역할에 대한 태도가, 그리고 부모-자녀 간 개방형 의사소통이 청소년의 양성평등의식에 영향을 미치는 중요 변인으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과는 청소년의 양성평등의식에 대한 부모의 성역할 태도와 부모-자녀 간의사소통의 중요성을 시사해 주고 있다.
