This article is a phenomenological qualitative study focusing on human experiences and explorers the procedures that female victims of domestic violence - who reside at shelters - achieve inner growth and overcome difficulties via music experiences by Guided Imagery and Music (GIM). The study categorized music experiences of three female victims for seven sessions and interviews with professional counselors who lived with them and social workers; then, it drew core thematic categories. To guarantee the trustworthiness of the research, I used triangulation including categorizing and member checking, and the strategy proposed by Padgett(1988). The data analysis released that image - reaction clusters of participants for their music experience - output 141data, which were sorted into 34 sense groups, and finally into 10 broad thematic categories and 5 core thematic categories. As a result, the research shows that Guided Imagery and Music helps female victims who temporarily reside at shelters and have to make a quick decision for their near future by promoting inner growth to overcome their challenged situations.

이 연구는 인간의 경험세계에 관심을 두는 현상학적 질적 연구로 쉼터에서 거주하고 있는 가정폭력 피해여성들이 그룹 심상유도음악치료(Guided Imagery and Music;GIM)의 음악경험을 통해 내적성장과 함께 어려움을 극복해가는 과정의 현상을 탐구하기 위한 목적으로 수행되었다. 이 연구는 7회의 치료에 참여했던 가정폭력 피해여성 3명의 음악적 경험 및 이들과 24시간 생활하는 가정폭력 전문상담원과 사회복지사의 인터뷰를 통해 그 내용을 범주화하고 핵심 주제군을 도출한 것이다. 연구의 진정성을 위해 삼각측량과 Padgett(1998)가 제안한 전략을 사용하였다. 자료 분석 결과 연구 참여자들의 음악경험에 대한 반응양상인 심상에서 141 개의 데이터가 산출되었으며, 이는 34개의 의미단위(은유적 상징)로 분류되고, 다시 10개의 상위 주제군과 5개의 핵심 주제군으로 구성되었다. 연구결과 심상유도음악치료가 일시적으로 쉼터에서 머물며 빠른 결정으로 미래를 계획해야 하는 가정폭력 피해여성들에게 내적성장을 통해 어려움에 처한 현실을 극복하도록 도움을 주는 것으로 나타났다.
