The Korea National Statistical Office recognized the necessity of delimination of small area statistics and had performed a study of setting up the census output area as the first year project. The purpose of this study is to review the result of delimination of census output area which set up through the automated program developed by the first year project and to solve the problems. When we compared the result of the census output area developed by the automated program with the actual data, several problems such as the mixing of housing types, census output areas with too small or large population, socio-economic heterogeneity, and irregular type of census output area has been derived. In order to solve these problems, we revised the criteria to set up the census output area and reviewed the result. The revised criteria are applied to the information of apartment and land use in the basic unit area and to the adjustment of delimination
of large areal unit with small number of population. As a result, we can improve both the homogeneity within the census output area and heterogeneity between the census output areas. These revised criteria has been selected as new guidelines for delimination of setting up the census output area in order to improve the homogeneity of the census output area

통계청에서는 소지역통계공표구역 설정의 필요성을 인식하여 소지역통계공표구역(이하 집계구)설정에 대한 1차년도 연구를 수행한 바 있다.본 연구는1차년도에 자동화된 프로그램을 이용하여 설정된 집계구 획정결과를 검토하고 문제점을 해결하고자 하는데목적이 있다. 1차년도 연구에서 자동획정된 집계구를 현장자료와 비교해 본 결과 주택유형의 혼재,인구 과소․과밀 집계구,사회경제적 동질성 저해,불규칙한 집계구 형태 등의 문제점이 도출되었다.이를 해결하기 위하여 기준을 보완하고 그 결과를 검토하였다. 보완된 기준은 기초단위구에 아파트 및 용도지역 정보 반영,인구 과소 대구역 경계조정 등으로 구성하였다.그 결과 집계구 내의 동질성과 인접한 집계구간 이질성을 높일 수 있었다. 이러한 대안은 집계구 획정 작업과정의 지침으로 반영하여 집계구가 보다 동질적인 지역으로 기능할 수 있도록 하였다.
