While most prior studies on the individual adoption of information technology (IT) innovations have regarded IT as a tool to improve task performance in work settings, people utilize IT for many different purposes in various contexts of our daily lives nowadays. A good example is
mobile phone. Mobile phone is not only for voice communications, but also for many purposes to meet various user needs. Given the close attachment of mobile phones to the users, similarly to fashion items, mobile phones are used to express users’ self-images, styles or identities. In addition, the user wants to buy a good design product that is aesthetically pleasing. From this perspective, the current study focuses on the impact of design aesthetics on the adoption of mobile phones. Based on a survey with college students, the study reveals that the design aesthetics is an important determinant of customers’ adoption decision processes. The findings of this study are expected to extend our understanding about IT adoption decisions.
