The purpose of this study was to analyze the planning characteristics in Complexes of Small Schools. The findings of the study follow: (1) Common areas and private areas are planned hieratically for enhancing facility users' social contacts. (2) Teacher's area is located within each component school. Teachers can focus on the education for students within a small school
community. (3) The selection of floor plan types and the vertical composition of component schools affect Intelligibility of spaces, which is related to the enhancement of facility users' social contacts.
