This study is purpose to investigate environmental design on arrangement and plan design as well as ecological factors on the materials in the traditional house. The traditional house adapt arrangement to topography and surrounding environment. The arrangement of the middle region in Korea played the roll to prevent cold air from outdoor in winter and arrangement of southern region in Korea protected hot air from outdoor in summer.
The thermal characteristics of the soil is similar to its of concrete but the moisture control of the soil is superior to its of concrete. As the embodied energy of soil is lower than concrete, the soil as construction materials could be ecological materials.
