As international exchange increase and national economic growth in Korea, over one(1) million of foreigners are already staying locally. Under the given circumstance, there are rapidly growing number of foreigners who are seeking for civil petition or under a trial. Translation service in demand at local law courts shows a growth accordingly.
However the translation service for foreigners leaves a lot to be desired none the less.
According to a reliable sources, there are only two(2) of the establsihed translation service at the Civil Service Consultation Center in law courts for foreigners among the whole thirty(30) of the High Courts, District Courts and Municipal Courts nationwide in Korea. Translation at law courts is one of the problems that we face, and that we also shall bring it to a settlement in collaboration between government and school authorities. In this regards, this paper introduces its need and case study on the several points against current translation service at a law court in Korea and gives guidelines for its betterment.
