It should be starting point to define the function and spatial characteristics of each space in housing design. Balcony, however, gas not been figured out in terms of it`s function and spatial property. This study was to figure out essential function of balcony by analysing it`s extension design. The results are as follows: 1) The area of balcony has increased constantly. 2) Unit plan was influenced by balcony extension design. 3) Remained balcony after balcony extension was for the utility and the privacy.
