한국 교회는 복음주의를 언급하지 않고서는 이해할 수 없다. 교회 다수가 복음주의의 신조를 따르며 그 영향 아래에 있기 때문이다. 그러나 현재 한국 교회의 복음주의 운동은 시대와 문화의 도전 앞에 서 있다. 다종교사회와 세속화의 도전은 더 강화되고 있다. 양적 성장의 어두운 면이 명확하게 드러나고 있다: 성경 지식과 삶의 이원화, 제자훈련의 한계, 신학적 편협함, 사회 통합에 기여하지 못함, 세속화, 영적인 천박성, 그리고 교회 지도자의 윤리적 결함 등. 이 논문의 목적은 현대 기독교에서 복음주의가 기독교영성을 어떤 관점에서 바라보고 반응하고 있는지 문헌을 통해 살펴보고 한국의 복음주의 교회에 주는 시사점을 찾는 것이다. 이를 위해 첫째, 복음주의의 신조 및 특징을 요약하였다. 둘째, 미국과 영국에서 기독교영성과 복음주의가 어떻게 상호작용하고 있는지 살펴보았다. 기독교영성학은 복음주의 전통을 기독교영성운동의 중요한 한 연구 대상으로 인정하고 있다. 복음주의는 기독교영성을 수용하여 자신의 전통을 심화하고 확장하고 있다. 이런 현황은 복음주의 출판사들의 영성 관련 서적과 복음주의 신학교들의 영성 관련 프로그램을 통해 확인할 수 있었다. 셋째, 한국의 경우 복음주의와 기독교영성은 어떻게 상호작용하고 있는지 살펴보았다. 복음주의 출판사들 다수가 영성 관련 서적을 통해 기독교영성을 소개한 반면, 다수의 복음주의 신학교와 학자들은 여전히 기독교영성을 수용하는데 소극적이다. 넷째, 한국 복음주의 교회가 영성을 적용할 때 고려할 사항을 제시하였다. 이 논문이 연구의 대상으로 삼은 문헌은 복음주의 기독교인에게 많은 영향을 끼치고 있는 복음주의 출판사가 펴낸 책들과 복음주의 교단 및 신학교에 소속된 신학자와 목회자들의 글이다. 복음주의의 다양성을 존중하면서 폭넓게 자료를 참고하였다. 기독교영성학은 복음주의 전통을 기독교영성의 중요한 연구 주제로 받아들였다. 복음주의는 자신의 전통을 심화하고 확장하는데 기독교영성의 통찰을 적용하였고, 복음주의 교회 현장에서는 새로운 영성운동이 일어났다. 기독교영성을 수용하기 위해 복음주의 신조를 바꿔야 한다는 생각은 오해이며, 그 오해를 풀기 위해 몇 가지 제안하였다.

The Korean church cannot be understood without reference to evangelicalism. This is because the majority of churches adhere to evangelical beliefs and operate under its influence. However, the evangelical movement within the Korean church today faces challenges posed by the times and culture. The challenges of a multi-religious society and secularization are intensifying. The dark side of quantitative growth is becoming clearly evident: the dichotomy between biblical knowledge and daily life, the limitations of discipleship training, theological narrow-mindedness, failure to contribute to social integration, secularization, spiritual shallowness, and ethical shortcomings among church leaders. The purpose of this paper is to examine, through the literature, how evangelicalism in modern Christianity views and responds to Christian spirituality, and to identify implications for the evangelical church in Korea. To this end, first, the creeds and characteristics of evangelicalism were summarized. Second, the interaction between Christian spirituality and evangelicalism in the United States and the United Kingdom was examined. The field of Christian spirituality studies recognizes the evangelical tradition as an important subject of study within the Christian spirituality movement. Evangelicalism is deepening and expanding its own tradition by embracing Christian spirituality. This trend was confirmed through spirituality-related books published by evangelical publishers and spirituality-related programs offered by evangelical seminaries. Third, we examined how evangelicalism and Christian spirituality interact in the Korean context. While many evangelical publishers have introduced Christian spirituality through spirituality-related books, many evangelical seminaries and scholars remain reluctant to embrace Christian spirituality. Fourth, this study presented considerations for Korean evangelical churches when applying spirituality. The literature examined in this thesis consists of books published by evangelical publishers that have significantly influenced evangelical Christians, as well as writings by theologians and pastors affiliated with evangelical denominations and seminaries. A wide range of materials was consulted while respecting the diversity of evangelicalism. Christian spirituality studies have embraced the evangelical tradition as a significant subject of research. Evangelicalism has applied the insights of Christian spirituality to deepen and expand its own tradition, and new spiritual movements have emerged within the evangelical church. The notion that evangelical creeds must be altered to accommodate Christian spirituality is a misunderstanding, and several proposals were made to address this misunderstanding.
